NESCAFÉ® Plan – Beyond the cup
At NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® we want to ensure you get the best quality of beverage in every cup. But, quality is not just about taste, it is also about respecting the environment and the livelihoods of the people we work with. This is why we strive to bring you quality products that are produced in a responsible way from bean to cup, playing our part in bringing The NESCAFÉ® Plan to life.
The NESCAFÉ® Plan is our commitment to Creating Shared Value in the coffee sector and our aim is to help guarantee a long term supply of quality coffee produced with a lower environmental impact. The plan will be implemented with the support of Rainforest Alliance, other partners from the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) and the 4C Association (Common Code for the Coffee Community Association).
The plan focuses on three key areas : responsible farming, responsible production and supply and responsible consumption and is backed by an investment of CHF 350 million (£220 million) until 2020.

The NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® System – Our commitment towards the environment
Back in 2006, we developed the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® System and from the beginning, have continuously reviewed and reduced the environmental impact of our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® coffee, capsule and other packaging, and machine.
Since then, at every step of the coffee chain, from bean to cup, NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® aims to reduce its total environmental impact. We are regularly analysing the impact of our system, by conducting Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). The LCA is a recognised methodology, processed by external experts and peer reviewed which scores the current status in terms of impact, and highlights areas for improvement.
Since our launch in 2006, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 32%; we have decreased the amount of non-renewable energy we use by 41%; and we have reduced the amount of water used in the process by 25%.
Our aim is to commit to continue on this path, minimising our environmental impact wherever possible without compromising the quality of the beverage in your cup.
